Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2012

The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.

It is SAAM 2012!!!  This year’s theme is

Do It*…With Consent!

Preventing sexual violence takes all of us. With this in mind, the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault has launched a new campaign, Do It*…With Consent! to help educate Maine communities about healthy relationships. Consent is part of every healthy relationship, whether it’s a relationship with your friends, your family, your coworkers, or your partner. So, do it with consent!

Do It*…With Consent!

*Taking your friend’s dessert.

*Borrowing your relative’s car.

*Petting someone’s dog.

*Taking time off from work.

*Kissing and holding hands.

*Hooking up.

*Sex.

Consent is part of every healthy relationship.

Rape Response Services held our Second Annual Awareness Walk on Friday April 27th.  View our Awareness Walk Flyer for more information about the walk we held.  Despite the cold and rainy weather we had a great turn out.  Thank you to everyone who attended and all of our fabulous guest speakers from the University of Maine Safe Campus Project, the Maine National Guard, Penquis Health Services and Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center, for helping to make the walk a success!
