There are many ways to talk with us.To call: Call 1-800-871-7741 anytime.
Our services are free and private* and here for you any time you need them. *We are what is called mandated reporters. That means we have to follow Maine state reporting laws. If we think you are under 18 and you tell us any information that makes us think you are being exploited, abused or neglected, we may have to share this with other adults to help keep you safe. We will never ask you for identifying information. You can share what you feel comfortable sharing.
If you've been recently assaulted:Do not blame yourself. Sexual assault is never the victim’s fault.
Find a safe place and call a person you trust. It can be a good friend or family member. Call us. A trained person will listen and help you figure out what to do next.
If you have not already done it, do not wash, bathe, go to the bathroom, change your clothes, smoke, eat or drink anything. Information can be collected from your body if you have a forensic exam (also known as a rape kit). Even if you’ve done any of these things, it is still a good idea to see a nurse or doctor for injuries, STIs, and pregnancy prevention. Go as soon as you can. If you decide to get a forensic exam, it might be used if you decide to report the crime to the police. You do not have to pay for the forensic exam if you want to have one. A trained person from your local sexual assault support center can go with you to the ER or other medical services if you want support. The information from your body, clothes, and things will be kept for 90 days. It may be kept for longer. In this time, you can think if you want to tell the police about the assault. You can still get help from a doctor or nurse even if you don’t tell the police. |
